π¬18.Four Noble Truths - Introduction 1 of 9
Buddha had to go through countless lifes to accumulate the perfections (parami's) just to be able to discover the four noble truths and then teach it to all beings. Buddha had so much compassion that he was willing to suffer in the samsara for a very long time.
It is said in the book that the time he spent in the samsara cannot be measured even in millions of world cycles. In order to become the Buddha he has to go through four incalculables and 100,000 world cycles. Even one world cycle cannot be measured in terms of years or centuries.
The Four Noble Truths - CattΔri AriyasaccΔni, are the central teaching of the Buddha. In these Dhamma talks the late Venerable U Silananda of Half Moon Bay, California (1927 - 2005) explained clearly this teaching and the practice of Vipassana meditation to understand the deeper meaning of the Four Noble Truths.
The reference book used in these talks is The Path of Purification (Visudhimagga) translated from the Pali by Bhikkhu ΓaαΉamoli with details shown in Chapter XVI, starting from paragraph 13.
We're grateful for Sayadaw U Silananda's compassion in spreading the Buddha's teachings in the West.
